Building Community Together

Community members, staff, and local leaders from Pasco, WA came together to cut the ribbon for Phase III.

Purpose

Tierra Vida is a neighborhood of Jubilee Foundation, which stewards a family legacy of “bearing fruit that will last”through servant leadership, community building, and philanthropy. Tierra Vida is a safe, resilient neighborhood that models and validates Jubilee’s approach to community-building.

Twenty years ago, the intention behind Tierra Vida was simple but powerful: to create a resident-led, affordable community built on connection and purpose. Homeowners and renters come together to support one another through Community Life programs and a Rec Center, offering third spaces for small groups, volunteer opportunities, community events, and youth engagement. Today, that vision remains as steadfast and deeply rooted as ever.

As Tierra Vida continues to grow, that same founding spirit can be seen in every new development and relationship formed proof that intentional community building is both timeless and transformative. This enduring vision was at the heart of a recent celebration marking the neighborhood’s 20-year anniversary and the completion of Phase III.

Celebrating 20 Years and New Growth

On October 13th, Tierra Vida welcomed residents, local leaders, and community representatives to celebrate the official completion of  Phase III of Tierra Vida Community.

The new growth includes 120 new multi-family affordable apartments, green spaces, and a dog park. This expansion addresses regional housing needs and continues Jubilee’s commitment to creating an intentional, thriving community.

Speeches were given by Twigy Tellez, Director of Jubilee, City of Pasco Representatives, Chamber of Commerce representatives, and Roger Bairstow Board Chair of The Broetje Family Trust.

As Tierra Vida celebrates its growth, new residents are already beginning to experience what makes this place so special. Jessica, one of the newest members of the community, shared how moving to Tierra Vida has opened a new chapter in her life – one filled with connection, hope, and a sense of belonging.

Jessica’s Journey: Finding Belonging

When Jessica and her family began searching for a new place to live, they wanted more than just a roof over their heads. They were seeking safety, stability, and a sense of belonging. Moving from a busy, disconnected neighborhood, they often felt isolated and worried about their children’s future.

From the moment they arrived at Tierra Vida, Jessica noticed a difference. Neighbors greeted them warmly, children played freely together, and the atmosphere was welcoming and inclusive. For Jessica, it was the small gestures friendly smiles, waves, and shared moments – that made the neighborhood feel like home.

As her family settled in, Jessica became part of the community – attending events, joining youth activities, and volunteering alongside neighbors. Life at Tierra Vida gave her family a renewed sense of purpose and connection.

Over time, they experienced a profound change. Peace replaced worry, and simple daily interactions – a wave from a neighbor, a kind word, a shared smile – reminded them they were part of something bigger.

Stories like Jessica’s show why Tierra Vida exists. Here, every resident helps shape the neighborhood’s future. Through shared spaces, small acts of kindness, and moments of connection, the community grows stronger when people choose to engage with one another.

As you reflect on Jessica’s story, consider this:

  • How are you creating community where you live?
  • What third spaces — parks, porches, cafés, or community centers — help you connect and belong?

Together, we can build places where everyone feels seen, valued, and truly at home.
