St Patrick’s Day, on March 17, remembers one of Ireland’s patron saints, St Patrick. Although he was originally kidnapped and taken to Ireland from his homeland, he came to love the people there, so after he escaped, he studied to become a missionary and went back.Today this day largely celebrates Irish-American culture in the United States. Celebrations concentrate on Irish themed parties, drinks and food. Many people get into the spirit by dressing in green clothing and eating green colored food. So, we too decided to go ALL GREEN at the Collegium Cafe.
As part of the celebrations we had a fun activity for everyone who walked through our doors. The task was a little tricky, but it was all worth the exercise as the kids especially enjoyed the assignment of finding a candy wrapped in gold paper. Once they found it they were treated to a free GREEN DRINK and a snack. It was exciting to see the kids as well as the adults working quite hard to win their coveted prize. This was a wonderful activity as it encouraged team work and communication while bringing happiness to the day for all those who participated in the activity.
The reward might not have been expensive, but it was the satisfaction of having earned something in return for their efforts that made the difference. And for us at the Center for Sharing it was a joy to bring a smile on the faces of these lovely people.
