Recently a group of 25 members well over the age of 50 came together for lunch at the Collegium after a tour of Broetje Orchards. They are the “Fit, Fine and Over Fifty Club” (FFOFC) which brings together adults to promote their physical, intellectual, and social health. The group consists of more than 300 members in the state.
The group first toured the apple packing house and the 4500 acre orchard surrounding it. Broetje Orchards produces 1 out of every 25 apples grown in the United States. They also learned about various programs overseen by Vista Hermosa Foundation, which serves employee families here as well as other marginalized people groups in our society, and abroad.
After their tour, the group came over to the Collegium Café for lunch. They expressed their thanks to Glenn and Abraham for their presentation about the breadth of work of several associated communities including the Collegium, Jubilee Leadership Academy, and a variety of housing, community, child-care, school and after-school programs at Vista Hermosa and Tierra Vida. Each community shares in the commitment to teach and model servant leadership. They expressed thanks to Tyler Broetje for his patience answering the many questions the group had, as well as to Rachel and her team for the wonderful hospitality and tasty lunch served. The group noted that deeply living your mission affects your whole outlook of interfacing with others – everyone is welcomed, valued, encouraged for their potential, and supported along the way.
Some of the expressions used to describe the group’s overall experience of the tour were: “I had no idea!…astonished…a compassionate and supportive community…beautiful…and mission centered.” We at the Center for Sharing would like to thank the Fit, Fine and over fifty group for taking time to visit. We congratulate them for the amazing work that they do as a team that benefits society and spreads healthy living by staying active.
