There is something familiar about gathering again. On the evening of September 17th, 43 members and friends of our Community of Servant-Leaders filled the Leo Center this fall, sharing a meal, reconnecting with one another, and remembering the work that has brought us together for nearly 30 years.
With Cheryl Broetje, Glenn Cross, Rick Griffin, Rose and Al Griffin in attendance, that history was present throughout the evening. Since our first servant-leadership class in 1995, the Institute for Servant Leaders has grown into a community of people who have learned, practiced, and served together in many different ways and places. Some in the room have been part of that story for decades. Others are just beginning to discover what servant-leadership might mean for them.
As Rick stood before the community and shared our new approach for levels of engagement, his invitation was simple, there is a place for you in this work. Maybe it begins by coming to another gathering. Maybe it is volunteering, supporting a program, taking a course, or exploring servant-leadership more deeply. For others, it may be continuing to grow within the Community of Servant-Leaders or discerning a mission and finding similarly called people willing to serve alongside them.
As the evening came to a close, we were left with a question that each of us can continue to carry… What has God uniquely gifted and called me to do, and who might I need beside me as I do it?
