Irene is a new resident of the Tierra Vida community. She has been taking medication and getting treatment for a mental health issue. Recently, Irene suffered from a relapse and began having episodes, which led her to withdraw from her husband and three-year-old daughter. Jubilee staff members introduced Irene to Maria, another resident, and the two began to share their stories about their mental health issues. In talking, both women chose to visit a church and came back to Tierra Vida more relaxed. Since then, they have decided to attend church together every Friday and meet each morning for walks in the community. As their relationship has grown, they have agreed to hold each other accountable as they try to overcome their mental health issues, interact with other residents and practice new coping skills in a safe and supportive environment.
